CrossFit Programming App: a Bubble.io mobile app
A mobile app for CrossFit athletes who want personalised programming without the price of one-on-one coaching. Athletes enter their personal records, the app shows their weaknesses, and they assign monthly training tracks for weightlifting, gymnastics and conditioning, paid for with credits. Built by Webziper in Bubble.io.

What does it do?
One-on-one coaching is the best way to fix a weakness, and the most expensive. Standard CrossFit programs are affordable, but they're the same for everyone. This app sits in between: programming that targets each athlete's specific weaknesses, without paying for a personal coach.
Instead of one general program, the app offers targeted training tracks in three areas: weightlifting, gymnastics and conditioning.
How does an athlete get started?
The onboarding is five steps, each on its own screen:
- Sign up for an account.
- Add personal records, such as max squat and max push-ups, on the personal records page.
- Check their weaknesses, which the app shows once the personal records are filled in.
- Assign a cycle on the assign cycle page: a training program for weightlifting, gymnastics or conditioning.
- Start the program on the workout page.
How do credits work?
Programming is sold in credits. One credit assigns one month of one track.
| Moment | Credits | What the athlete can do |
|---|---|---|
| New account | 3 credits | Assign one month each of gymnastics, weightlifting and conditioning |
| During the month | Used | Train on the assigned tracks from the workout page |
| After the first month | 0 credits | Get new credits to assign the next month of training |
Credits keep it simple. After the first month, an athlete who only wants to keep working on gymnastics needs one credit. Someone who wants the full picture runs all three tracks.
What made it complex?
- Data that drives the program. Personal records feed the weakness view, and the weakness view guides which cycles an athlete assigns. Each screen depends on the one before it.
- Three parallel tracks. Weightlifting, gymnastics and conditioning run as separate monthly cycles that an athlete can combine.
- A credit balance. Credits are granted at sign-up, spent per track per month, and topped up to continue. The balance has to be right every time, or athletes lose training they're entitled to.
- Mobile first. Athletes use the app in the gym, between sets. The workout page has to be quick to read on a phone.
Why Bubble.io for an app like this?
The app is mostly structured data and rules: records, weaknesses, cycles, workouts and credits. That's exactly what Bubble.io handles well, with its own database, workflows and a native mobile builder, so the logic and the app live in one place.
Bubble.io fits when:
- Your app turns user data into a personal plan, such as training, nutrition or learning paths
- You sell access in units: credits, months or programs
- You want a mobile app without a separate backend team
Plan extra care when:
- You publish to the App Store and Google Play. Selling digital content inside a mobile app comes with store payment rules.
- The app needs wearables or heavy device features, which may need a custom native layer
We build apps like this as Bubble.io development projects, usually starting from an MVP. For another mobile app we built in Bubble.io, see the Sports Recruitment Platform. Planning a fitness or coaching app? Tell us what you're building.
Frequently asked questions
Can you build a fitness app with Bubble.io?
Yes. Bubble.io handles the parts most fitness apps are made of: user accounts, a database of records and workouts, rules that turn data into a plan, and a native mobile front end. We built a CrossFit programming app this way, with personal records, weakness-based tracks and a credit system.
How does a credit system work in a Bubble.io app?
Each user has a credit balance stored in the database. Workflows add credits, for example at sign-up, and subtract them when the user unlocks something, such as one month of a training track. The app checks the balance before unlocking, so users can only assign what they have credits for.
How can an app personalise training without a coach?
By asking for the right data first. The athlete enters personal records, the app compares them to identify weaknesses, and the athlete assigns training tracks that target those areas. The plan is personal because it starts from the athlete's own numbers.
Can a Bubble.io mobile app sell credits or subscriptions?
Yes, but plan for store rules. Apps published on the App Store and Google Play generally have to follow each store's payment rules when they sell digital content such as training programs, so how credits are sold should be decided before the build.
