Online Psychotherapy Platform: built entirely in Bubble.io

A web platform that connects patients with licensed psychotherapists for online therapy sessions. We built it entirely in Bubble.io for a HealthTech startup: two user types with their own dashboards, an admin panel, session booking, Stripe payments and Whereby video calls that run inside the platform, in several languages.

What does it do?

The platform connects patients with licensed psychotherapists for therapy sessions held online. A patient books a session, pays for it, and joins the video call without leaving the platform. A psychotherapist manages their calendar and sessions from their own dashboard. An admin team runs the platform from a separate panel.

The client is a HealthTech startup. The project is confidential, so we don't name them here. Everything on the platform was built by Webziper in Bubble.io.

How is the platform built?

One Bubble.io app serves three kinds of users, each with their own view of it. Two outside services handle the parts that need specialist infrastructure: Stripe for payments and Whereby for real-time video.

Patients, psychotherapists and admins each use their own part of one Bubble.io platform: dashboards, an admin panel, session booking with a calendar, a multilingual interface and role-based data access. Stripe handles session payments and Whereby provides video sessions embedded in the platform.Patientown dashboardbook & payjoin sessionsPsychotherapistown dashboardcalendarrun sessionsAdminadmin panelusers & sessionsplatform settingsBubble.io platformpatient dashboardpsychotherapist dashboardadmin panelsession booking & calendarmultilingual interfaceuser roles & data accessStripesession paymentsWherebyvideo sessionsembedded in the platformpaymentsvideo roomUser typeBuilt in Bubble.ioPaymentsReal-time video

How does a session work?

From the patient's side, a session is four steps. Each one touches a different part of the system, which is why the whole chain has to be tested end to end, not screen by screen.

A patient books a slot in the psychotherapist's calendar, pays for the session through Stripe, the session appears in both dashboards, and at the scheduled time the video session opens in a Whereby room inside the platform.1 · Bookpatient picks a slotin the calendar2 · Paysession paidthrough Stripe3 · Confirmedsession shows in bothdashboards4 · Video sessionWhereby room opensinside the platformPatient and psychotherapist each see only their own sessions and data

Video runs through Whereby, embedded directly in the platform. Patients and psychotherapists don't install anything or follow a link to another site. They join the session from the same place they booked it.

What made it complex?

On paper, it's a booking app. In practice, four things raise the bar:

  • Two user types with opposite needs. Patients book and pay; psychotherapists manage availability and run sessions. Each gets a dashboard built around their own job, plus an admin panel on top.
  • Payments. Money moves through Stripe for every session, and payment has to stay in sync with what the calendar says.
  • Real-time video. The session itself happens inside the platform, so the video room has to open for the right two people at the right time.
  • Sensitive data. A therapy platform holds personal information that people expect to stay private. Each user should see only what belongs to them: their own sessions and their own details.
Rule of thumb: in a platform with several user types and sensitive data, decide who can see what before you design a single screen. Access rules are much harder to add later than features.

Multilingual support adds one more layer: every screen and message has to work in each language, not just the main one.

Can Bubble.io handle a platform like this?

Yes. A Bubble.io build covers the dashboards, the calendar and booking logic, user roles and the languages, while specialist services take care of payments and video. That split let us ship the whole platform without custom infrastructure.

Bubble.io fits a platform like this when:

  • You have several user types that each need their own dashboard
  • Payments and video can run on proven services such as Stripe and Whereby
  • You want to launch, learn from real users and change things quickly

Plan extra care when:

  • The data is sensitive. Access rules and hosting choices need to be decided up front.
  • You need features the video or payment provider doesn't offer, which may mean a different provider

We build platforms like this as Bubble.io development projects, usually starting from an MVP. If you're planning a marketplace or booking platform with payments and video, tell us what you're building.

Frequently asked questions

Can Bubble.io handle an online therapy or telehealth platform?

Yes. Bubble.io can run the dashboards, booking calendar, user roles, admin panel and a multilingual interface of a platform like this, while specialist services handle payments and video. We built an online psychotherapy platform this way, with Stripe for payments and Whereby for video sessions inside the app.

How do you add video calls to a Bubble.io app?

With a video provider that can be embedded, such as Whereby. The app creates a video room for each session and shows it inside the platform, so patients and professionals join from the same place where they booked, without installing anything or switching to another site.

Can a Bubble.io app take payments with Stripe?

Yes. Stripe is one of the most common payment integrations in Bubble.io apps. In a booking platform it handles the payment for each session, and the app keeps the payment status in sync with the booking.

How do you protect sensitive data in a multi-user Bubble.io app?

By deciding early who can see what. In Bubble.io that means privacy rules on every data type, so each user only receives their own records, separate roles for each user type and an admin panel with its own access. Hosting and compliance requirements should be checked before the build starts.

Building a platform with payments and video?

We build multi-user Bubble.io platforms, from booking and payments to video sessions inside the app.
